Our Chapters

University of Aveiro Optica Student Chapter

The Optica Student Chapter of the University of Aveiro was founded on April 5th of 2013.

As the premier global network in optics and photonics, Optica connects everyone – from scientists and students to engineers and business leaders – enabling them to achieve their goals while amplifying their potential.

We are the first and single Optica Student Chapter in Portugal. The Optica Student Chapter of the University of Aveiro is a non-profit association looking to promote Optics Technology in Schools/Universities and in the Community. We reinforce the relationship between Academia and Industry, and endeavor the creation of a strong international network of students in the field of Optics.

Our main events include showcases in public schools and conferences, the organization and/or participation in international and national conferences/meetings, and the promotion of social events.

Physics League Chapter

Physics League is a non-profit association whose objective is physics divulgation, founded in December 2014 it has been growing its number of members until more than 70 that we currently are. We are students from the Physics, Mathematics and Optics Degree, Master's students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from the University of Valladolid, Spain. We are a chapter of the European Physics Society (EPS-Young Minds) and of the OPTICA.

Our main activities consist in shows and participative experiments not just for children, but for everybody who is interested in science. Moreover, we do theater plays and escape rooms. All these activities are done in schools and high schools, in the University of Valladolid, in science museums and cultural centers; we also participate in the European Researchers Night, the Week of Science, the International day of Women and Girls in Science and Pint of Science, among other events.

Optica Student Chapter of the Institute of Optics

IOPTICA is the Optica student chapter of the Institute of Optics (IO), in Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It was founded in 2007 and is located in Madrid, Spain. We are composed of about 20 young researchers, working on different fields related to optics and physics. We are actively involved in disseminating Optics Science among the general population. To achieve it, we perform workshops and give talks at all educational levels, we organize scientific seminars involving renowned scientists and special events for the Day of Light, European Researchers Night, Week of Science, the International day of Women and Girls in Science or LGBT day. We also collaborate with the Department of Scientific Culture of the CSIC, with different projects like City Science (Ciudad Ciencia) and Science in the Neighborhood (Ciencia en el Barrio), spreading science among people living far from big cities as well as in Madrid’s most vulnerable districts.
